About the position

The Graduate Student-R D - Student Analyst - Student Engineer position focuses on the application of advanced machine learning techniques to develop innovative solutions in the field of computer vision and artificial intelligence. The role is part of a dynamic team dedicated to transforming reality into digitized formats, particularly within the healthcare sector. The team is engaged in cutting-edge research and development, utilizing novel machine learning algorithms to create intelligent automated systems that can sense, think, and act in real-world scenarios. This internship position is set for the summer of 2025 and offers a unique opportunity for students to contribute to impactful projects that support decision-making tools for clients at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). As a member of the project teams, interns will be expected to collaborate with multidisciplinary groups to tackle complex technical challenges. The role involves applying state-of-the-art machine learning software solutions to enhance artificial intelligence systems specifically designed for healthcare applications. Interns will also be responsible for developing tools and techniques that will bolster the research and development capabilities of the team, ensuring that innovative solutions are effectively implemented and tested in real-world scenarios. This position not only provides hands-on experience in machine learning and data science but also fosters collaboration and innovation in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Join project teams to research and develop new decision support tools for SwRI clients.
  • Implement modern and traditional machine learning algorithms to solve novel problems.
  • Apply state-of-the-art machine learning software solutions for artificial intelligence systems in the healthcare field.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to discuss technical solutions to problems.
  • Develop tools and techniques to improve our team's research and development capability.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelors, Masters or a PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or Artificial Intelligence.
  • 0 years: BS candidates must have relevant academic research and/or internship experience. MS and PhD candidates must be pursuing some graduate work related to machine learning, statistics, and/or artificial intelligence.
  • Coursework/project work in Python. Some experience with ML libraries, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Sklearn.
  • Excellent mathematical skills in linear algebra and statistics.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
