About the position

The Grant Accountant I position at the University of Texas at Tyler involves providing professional accounting support for various sponsored grants and programs. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with award provisions, preparing financial reports, and assisting with audit inquiries, all while maintaining a high level of professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure institutional compliance with all provisions set forth by awards, including applicable federal, state, or UT System requirements.
  • Review financial terms and invoicing requirements of award documents to prepare accurate invoices and financial reports in accordance with University and sponsor requirements.
  • Prepare subcontract invoices for transmittal to the finance department and track subcontract invoices from institutions for appropriate signatures.
  • Process journal entries related to federal/state/private grants.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials related to audit inquiries for sponsored awards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in the relevant field.
  • Two years of related professional experience in grant accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, or a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years' experience in an academic medical center or public university is preferred.
