About the position

The Grant Director for the Talent Search program at Texas State University is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the daily operations and administrative components of the program. This position is grant-funded, and its continuation is contingent upon ongoing grant funding. The Director will coordinate and provide administrative oversight for all phases of the Talent Search program, ensuring that program activities and services align with specific objectives aimed at supporting students in their academic and career pursuits. The main office is located at Target Schools in Seguin, Texas, with frequent travel required to the Texas State University Campus in San Marcos, Texas. The role may also necessitate evening and weekend work to fulfill program requirements and meet the needs of students. In this capacity, the Director will be responsible for the training, supervision, and evaluation of program staff, conducting regular group and individual meetings to ensure effective communication and performance management. The Director will prepare and administer the program budget in accordance with federal and university policies, develop and implement strategies to meet program objectives, and maintain relevant data and metrics to evaluate performance against established goals. Additionally, the Director will be tasked with maintaining accurate records and monitoring compliance with university guidelines, as well as communicating with Department of Education Program officers regarding program performance, budgets, and other operational needs. Attendance at state, regional, and national conferences is also expected as part of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily operation of the Talent Search TRIO program and all components associated with the program.
  • Responsible for training, supervision, and evaluation of performance of program staff.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled group and individual meetings with program staff.
  • Prepare and administer program budget in accordance with federal and university budgetary policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet program objectives.
  • Maintain relevant data and metrics on performance to measure and evaluate goals and objectives.
  • Develop and maintain processes for keeping accurate records.
  • Monitor file/record keeping schedule in accordance with university guidelines.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled reviews of participant files and financial information.
  • Communicate and correspond with Department of Education Program officers on program performance, annual budgets, program needs, requests, progress updates, and questions.
  • Work with university departments to resolve any issues that may arise as they pertain to budgets, financial analysis, reconciliations, procurement, travel, the hiring process, office maintenance, or otherwise.
  • Attend State, Regional and National Conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, counseling, higher education administration, or a related field appropriate for direct services and program leadership supporting students.
  • Experience with academic support programs, or other student support services.
  • Experience advising students on academics, financial aid, college and career preparation.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and implementing services for high school or college students.
  • Experience managing programs, budgets, staff, and processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in social work, education, counseling, higher education administration, or a related field appropriate for direct services and program leadership supporting students.
  • Knowledge of TRIO or other higher education academic programs and support services and effective practices supporting student recruitment, retention, and development.
  • 3 years program management experience including project development/coordination, supervision, collaborative outreach, reporting fiscal management, database management, project evaluation, reporting/compliance, staff supervision.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) speaking/writing.
  • Experience working with SAP/Excel for budgets and financial processes.
