The Grant Project Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling plays a crucial role in supporting the Director of Guidance and Counseling in delivering comprehensive academic, social, and emotional counseling services to the district's schools and students. The primary objective of this position is to ensure that students are equipped to become college and career ready, as well as productive citizens. This role involves a variety of responsibilities, including the coordination of programs aimed at enhancing the quality of guidance and counseling services provided to students and their families. The coordinator will work closely with counselors, community agencies, and other stakeholders to promote initiatives that foster student development and success. In addition to program coordination, the Grant Project Coordinator will assist in the professional development of counselors, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to support students effectively. This includes organizing training sessions and workshops that focus on best practices in counseling and career development. The coordinator will also be responsible for developing educational materials and presentations that align with the district's guidance and counseling competencies, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of the counseling program. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as the coordinator will be expected to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, school personnel, and community members. Furthermore, the coordinator will play a key role in increasing the availability of scholarships, grants, and financial aid opportunities for graduating students, thereby supporting their transition to postsecondary education. Responsibilities

  • Assists the Director of Guidance and Counseling in providing quality professional development for counselors which promotes professional growth and expertise.
  • Coordinates the district character education program to increase the quality and scope of initiatives.
  • Coordinates the district Mother-Daughter Program to promote postsecondary options for parents and students.
  • Assists with the implementation of activities that will increase the quality and scope of the district's guidance and counseling program.
  • Assists with promoting partnerships between the Department of Guidance and Counseling and community agencies.
  • Assists with the development of lessons, materials, and presentations that will support the guidance and counseling student competencies.
  • Aids to increase the number of scholarships, grants, and other financial aid opportunities awarded to SISD graduating students.
  • Promotes positive relations through effective communication with students, parents, school personnel, and community.
  • Assists in maintaining the District Course Catalogue.
  • Assists with the supervision and monitoring of new counselors.
  • Takes initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignments.
  • Involves oneself actively in professional associations and make professional presentations at conferences.
  • Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the SISD safety program.
  • Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
  • Demonstrates a high level of independent, ethical, and professional conduct.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
  • Provides optimal customer service to all students, employees, parents, community members and any other stakeholders of the district.
  • Coordinates the Stronger Connections Grant.

Requirements

  • Valid Certificate as School Counselor
  • Master's Degree
  • Texas School Counselor Certification
  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
