About the position

The Grant Specialist position at White Pine County is responsible for researching, writing, and coordinating the grant application process. This role involves managing proposals in collaboration with department heads and ensuring compliance with grant management policies. The specialist will also handle reporting and documentation related to grants, working under the direction of the Finance Director.

Responsibilities

  • Identify countywide needs and develop a list of potential funding opportunities.
  • Compile financials and data required for effective grant proposals.
  • Write high-quality grant proposal narratives and applications.
  • Manage the proposal submission process to ensure timely submissions.
  • Coordinate and follow up on the progress of submitted proposals.
  • Develop and maintain a proposal calendar for recurring grant opportunities.
  • Conduct prospect research to identify and solicit new grants.
  • Maintain lists of private foundations and donors for funding projects.
  • Ensure grant applications and awards are approved by the Board of County Commissioners.
  • Manage and report on grants, including closeout procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with grant management policies and legal requirements.
  • Maintain grant files for audit requirements.
  • Understand and maintain general ledger for grant funding and create journal entries as needed.
  • Maintain budgets and create budget revisions as necessary.
  • Understand and maintain fixed assets and perform reconciliations.
  • Assist with development strategies and serve as a liaison to funding agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience in grant writing or grant management.
  • Associate Degree or higher preferred.
  • Knowledge of the grant writing process and grant management.
  • Understanding of laws and audit requirements for state and federal grants.
  • Ability to track match requirements and necessary documentation.
  • Proficiency in general ledger, budgeting, and reconciliation processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and deadline-driven.
  • Clear and compelling writing skills.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Public speaking skills to present information to the Board of County Commissioners.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
