About the position

The Grant Writer at The Whole Child is responsible for overseeing a diverse portfolio of grant resources, including researching, writing, and managing grants from various sources such as foundations, corporations, and government entities. This role involves coordinating the entire grantsmanship cycle to secure funding that aligns with the organization's development goals. The position offers the flexibility of remote work for candidates with proven experience in grant acquisition in the greater Los Angeles area.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the grantsmanship cycle including researching, planning, writing, and reporting to raise institutional support.
  • Track awarded grants through internal and external reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Development and team members to foster a culture of philanthropy.
  • Participate in team planning to set annual goals and in the annual solicitation and stewardship calendar.
  • Prepare and submit reports for grants tracking, leadership reports, and board presentations.
  • Create comprehensive campaigns for annual fundraising events and giving campaigns in partnership with the Senior Director of Development.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for an assigned portfolio of institutional donors and prospects.
  • Maintain an annual grants tracking calendar with submission dates and results using Donor Perfect.
  • Research and evaluate the feasibility of prospects in line with the strategic plan and annual goals.
  • Write and submit foundation and corporate proposals for funding.
  • Coordinate public funding applications and prepare necessary documentation for submission.
  • Organize meetings with relevant departments to discuss funding uses and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare progress and final reports for grants.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in grant writing.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in writing or nonprofit related program.
  • Successful track record securing mid-range grant funding.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring strong multitasking and organization skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong research and data mining skills.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Familiarity with project management and donor tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of CRM systems preferred.
  • A valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Donor Perfect or similar donor tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of the nonprofit sector in California.
