About the position

The Grants Accountant I/II position at the University of Florida is responsible for the administration of assigned awards, including the setup, management, and closeout of contracts and grants. The role involves producing reports, reconciling ledgers, ensuring compliance with regulations, and communicating with various stakeholders to resolve issues. The position is available at two levels, with the II level requiring more independence and experience in grant accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Administer assigned awards including setup, management, and closeout for contracts and grants.
  • Produce customized reports and queries to verify charges and update revenue status.
  • Reconcile three ledger groups and consult with departments regarding financial discrepancies.
  • Maintain project files with backup documentation and provide financial information for joint award management.
  • Monitor awards for compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform award setup and modification, interpreting award documents from various sponsors.
  • Prepare and submit invoices and financial reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform activities related to closeout, including preparing final expenditure reports and refunding sponsors if necessary.
  • Review and approve budget and expenditure transfers in the financial system.
  • Participate in training and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience for Level I.
  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in contract and grant accounting for Level II; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to function under stressful circumstances.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of electronic research administration software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with campus and funding agency representatives.
