About the position

The Grants Accountant plays a crucial role in the business office by managing financial transactions related to grants, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing financial reporting and analysis. This position supports the Chief Financial Officer in budget development and oversight, while also assisting with accounts payable, receivable, and payroll functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Business Office in monitoring, reconciliation, and maintenance of grant contracts and related materials.
  • Provide financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports.
  • Process journal entries and reconcile accounts.
  • Process grant fund expenditures and receivables and prepare payment requests on grant expenditures.
  • Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
  • Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents.
  • Compile year-end reports and work papers for external auditors.
  • Pull backup documentation for external auditors as part of the annual Single Audit.
  • Maintain internal controls by documenting and updating policies and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of compliance regulations and laws related to funding sources.
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Prepare payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements.
  • Respond to accounting procedural questions by researching and interpreting accounting policies and regulations.
  • Assist Business Office personnel with other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • Three to five years of experience as an accountant for a government, education, or non-profit entity.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial databases.
  • Strong skills in Word, Excel, and email communication.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong mathematical skills for financial calculations and data interpretation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with federal, state, and local funding compliance regulations.
  • Knowledge of 2 CFR 200 and OMB compliance supplement.
  • Experience in a school district or educational environment.
