About the position

The Grants Management Specialist position at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) involves providing technical expertise in the evaluation and oversight of complex criminal justice strategies and programs, particularly related to funding for behavioral and physical health care for justice-involved individuals. The role supports local, state, and tribal justice strategies to enhance public safety and improve the fair administration of justice. The specialist will manage grants, assist grantees, and serve as a representative on interagency task forces, ensuring alignment with constitutional requirements and federal payment options.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical expert in the evaluation and oversight of criminal justice strategies and programs related to behavioral and physical health care funding.
• Manage grants and assist grantees in the subject matter areas covered by the grants.
• Provide expert knowledge and strategic guidance on federal payment options for funding healthcare for justice-involved individuals.
• Represent BJA on interagency task forces focused on criminal justice programs, collaborating with high-level DOJ officials.
• Independently plan and prepare reports or other working documents related to complex program issues.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in a related field.
• Experience providing expertise and guidance on funding mechanisms for behavioral and physical health care in custodial settings.
• Ability to plan and execute work effectively.
• Strong oral communication skills.
