About the position

The Grants Manager at U.S.VETS is responsible for securing and managing government grants and private fundraising efforts to support the organization's mission of ending veteran homelessness. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, conducting prospect research, and ensuring timely submissions of grant proposals and reports. The position is crucial for maintaining and expanding the funding necessary for U.S.VETS programs and capital projects.

Responsibilities

  • Partner in securing, maintaining, and expanding over $80 million in grant funding for U.S.VETS programs and capital projects.
  • Conduct prospect research, writing, and timely submission of high-quality letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports to government and private funders.
  • Collaborate with fundraising, communications, and program staff to foster teamwork and shared responsibility.
  • Perform follow-up related to funded proposals, including thank you letters and report deadlines.
  • Conduct research to identify and analyze potential funding sources and application requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of grants and update grant tracking systems in the donor database.
  • Work with operations and program staff to manage financial information and programmatic goals.
  • Manage donor cultivation and develop relationships with existing and potential funders.
  • Attend meetings and workshops to engage donors and U.S.VETS partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3-6 years of grant writing experience; other technical or professional writing experience may substitute.
  • Experience with government grants preferred but not required.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in managing relationships.
  • Initiative to request and secure investments from private foundations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and donors.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and initiative to create new opportunities.
  • Strong Microsoft Office, database, and administration skills.

Nice-to-haves
