About the position

The Grants Manager at IRC in Northern California is responsible for overseeing pre- and post-award activities related to grants and funding opportunities. This role involves managing a geographic-specific portfolio, collaborating with various stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with public and private funding requirements. The Grants Manager will lead proposal development, manage grant agreements, and support donor communications while providing leadership to the grants team across multiple offices.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a geographic-specific portfolio that supports two offices.
  • Represent NorCal offices in regional opportunities in coordination with various stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Grants Manager and Development Director in prospecting efforts.
  • Conduct prospective research on potential public and private funders and grants.
  • Attend funding-related informational events and share information with department leads.
  • Lead concept, proposal, and budget development, ensuring high-quality standards.
  • Provide pre-award support to local offices as needed.
  • Lead negotiation and agreements stage with donors and communicate contract terms.
  • Coordinate grant opening and closing meetings for funded opportunities.
  • Support donor requests and conversations with department leads and finance personnel.
  • Serve as a main point of contact for donors across NorCal.
  • Develop and maintain contract and grant files with consistent documentation standards.
  • Provide technical support to Grants Coordinators for subawardee contracts.
  • Engage local partners and internal staff to ensure compliance with grant requirements.
  • Provide leadership and management of grants teams across Northern California.
  • Provide training and support for new hires.
  • Maintain proposal calendar, pipelines, and grants tracking.
  • Ensure the go/no-go review process is consistently applied.
  • Leverage communications with Finance and RAM to improve SOP and workflow.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in nonprofit management, community development, social sciences, social work, or related fields, or equivalent work experience.
  • Three+ years of nonprofit or public sector experience in development and grants.
  • Three+ years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with grants process of government funding agencies.
  • Familiarity with the Northern California non-profit/philanthropy environment is a plus.
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritize within tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and project management tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification or continuing education in project management, proposal development, and/or fundraising.
  • Experience in IRC systems of PEERS and OTIS.
