About the position

The Grants Specialist for the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Florida State University is responsible for administering, tracking, and reporting on various federal, state, local, and private awards. This role involves assisting principal investigators with both pre-award and post-award processes, ensuring compliance with relevant policies, and providing support for all sponsored project activities.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciling and monitoring fiscal activities for reporting purposes, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university policies.
  • Analyzing, verifying, recording, and tracking transactions through completion on all assigned projects.
  • Preparing integrated financial and statistical reports, financial statements, and projections for grant funding impacts.
  • Initiating the approval and audit of fiscal activities for contract/grant management, including pre- and post-award activities.
  • Approving transactions and following up to ensure timely completion.
  • Developing, analyzing, and reviewing sponsored project documents for accuracy and compliance within the first 30 days.
  • Assisting in proposal development by interpreting agency/solicitation guidelines to grantees.
  • Interpreting and providing guidance on federal, university, and college policies; monitoring sponsored project activities for compliance.
  • Advising PIs on pre- and post-award actions, including budget development and submission.
  • Coordinating personnel appointments with departmental HR and Central HR within 60 days.
  • Providing FACET information to the Assistant to the Chair.
  • Understanding the roles of other staff members related to project tasks and providing backup as needed.
  • Assisting the Grants Administrator in training new staff and potentially developing policies and procedures related to grants activities within 90 days.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience; or a high school diploma and five years of experience.
  • Successful completion of the eSPEAR Certification Series within the first six months from start date.
