The Grants Specialist position at the Department of Wildlife Conservation involves assisting in the coordination of federal grant programs under the supervision of the Federal Aid Coordinator. The role focuses on planning, developing, and preparing grant application packages, reviewing performance reports, and providing training and support to agency staff regarding federal requirements. The position also includes administrative duties and compliance monitoring related to various federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the coordination of all federal grant programs.
  • Work with agency grant project leaders in planning, developing, and preparing grant application packages.
  • Review grant performance reports, reimbursement requests, and financial reports.
  • Coordinate pass-thru grants to sub-recipients.
  • Provide assistance and training to agency employees regarding federal requirements and online systems.
  • Support agency audits as needed.
  • Learn and interpret federal regulations and guidance materials for grant project leaders.
  • Develop guidance materials and assist with training of project personnel.
  • Review grant packages and prepare for submission, working closely with Department project leaders.
  • Review project statements and assist with the review or development of grant budgets.
  • Complete federal forms for grant applications and compile compliance documents.
  • Review grant award letters and relay information to project leaders.
  • Assist with risk assessment for pass-through federal grants and maintain cooperative agreements.
  • Review monthly and quarterly requests for reimbursement under federal grants.
  • Monitor grant agreement time periods and assist in monitoring compliance with grant requirements.
  • Communicate benefits of federal aid programs to the public and agency personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Fisheries or Wildlife Management, or a related degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One year of previous related experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with PeopleSoft software and Workday software is preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills.
