About the position

The Graphic and Visual Designer is a .75 FTE or 30-hour-per-week position at the University of Minnesota, specifically within the Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing. This role is pivotal in creating visual content that communicates themes and messages through various forms, including text, audio, images, photography, animation, video, and interactive content. The work produced will significantly impact students, staff, faculty, friends, alumni, and the broader community across the metro area, state, country, and globally. Reporting directly to the Director of Communications, the designer will engage in a wide range of internal and external design tasks. This includes producing print and digital advertising, social media graphics, flyers, videos, online newsletters, web content, original illustrations, and contributing to the Bakken Center's biennial magazine, Mandala. The designer will utilize graphic software and web-based tools to ensure the creation of accurate and high-quality finished products. Additionally, the role involves maintaining and developing brand identity, design standards, and policies for the Bakken Center, ensuring that all visual communications align with the center's mission and values. This entry-level position offers an anticipated starting rate at or near the minimum rate for this classification of $21.83 per hour, providing a competitive wage for a part-time role in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and develops print and online design collateral for Center teams, including Taking Charge sites, academics, and research.
  • Develops engaging design collateral for business development and community outreach teams.
  • Produces interactive social media content including videos.
  • Performs video editing tasks.
  • Stays up to date on trends and strategies for health care design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years in graphic design or a related field.
  • Skilled in designing for online and print formats for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience designing and executing paid and organic social media campaigns (content and advertising) and creating content.
  • Expertise in website content development and creation.
  • Management and distribution of online newsletters and targeted emails.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, think critically, take direction, and also take initiative to work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a designer role in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud.
