About the position

Light House Studio is seeking a Graphic Design and Communications Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in managing our branding and communications efforts, ensuring that our mission and message resonate with the community. The Specialist will report directly to the Engagement Director and will play a crucial role in enhancing the organization's visibility through various channels, including social media, email, and web advertising. The position is based in Charlottesville, where our studio is located in the historic Vinegar Hill Theatre, a vibrant hub for independent film and community engagement. In this role, the Graphic Design and Communications Specialist will be responsible for creating visually engaging concepts that reflect our brand identity. This includes designing logos, promotional materials, and communication media that effectively convey our mission. The Specialist will also manage the production of these materials, coordinating with printing vendors to ensure high-quality outputs. Additionally, the role involves developing content for newsletters, email campaigns, and social media posts, as well as updating our website to keep our audience informed and engaged. The Specialist will also assist with various engagement initiatives, including the design of our Annual Report and support for fundraising events such as the annual Youth Film Festival. This position requires a creative individual who can work independently and collaboratively, taking feedback from the administrative team to refine designs and communications. The role also includes responsibilities at the Vinegar Hill Theatre, providing front-of-house support and assisting with technical needs during screenings and events.

Responsibilities

  • Manage branding and communications efforts for the organization.
  • Create visually engaging concepts such as logos and promotional materials.
  • Develop original visual media that communicates the organization's mission.
  • Select graphics, artwork, and photography/video for marketing materials.
  • Design and develop material for newsletters and email campaigns.
  • Manage website updates and create engaging social media posts.
  • Promote programs and events through print and online advertisements.
  • Document workshops and events through photography for marketing initiatives.
  • Coordinate and represent Light House Studio at various tabling events.
  • Design or oversee the design of the Annual Report.
  • Assist with design and communication needs for fundraising events.
  • Assist with donor-related mailings as requested.
  • Provide front of house or technical support for Vinegar Hill Theatre screenings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Art, Graphic Design, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop CS6, or similar design software.
  • Comfortable using Apple computers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and database utilization.
  • Experience in website design and social media communications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Filmmaking skills for creating behind-the-scenes videos is a bonus.
