About the position

The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph is seeking a Graphic Design Specialist whose primary objective is to take concepts and ideas and create visual representations in both print and electronic media to reach a diverse Catholic audience. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of current design software and be skilled in every step of the design process, from concept to final deliverable. This role requires collaboration with multiple teams, allowing the graphic design specialist to take written or spoken ideas and convert them into designs that connect with the audience. This is a full-time on-site position, based upon 40 hours per week. In this role, the Graphic Design Specialist will utilize various software programs to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs. Meeting deadlines, staying within budget, and scheduling project implementation based on workload are essential responsibilities. The specialist will examine existing processes, identify flaws, and create solutions that improve design capabilities. Additionally, the role involves updating and maintaining internal databases for designs, photography, and video, as well as collaborating, brainstorming, and strategizing with multiple teams or clients on a wide range of materials that may include web pages, presentations, publications, programming collateral, signage, internal communications, newsletters, and marketing materials. The Graphic Design Specialist will also be responsible for translating strategic direction into high-quality design within an established brand identity. This includes developing concepts by hand or with software and executing original content by determining the ideal usage of color, text, font style, imagery, and layout. Managing the design and uploading process for all project materials based on best practices for using a content management system is also a key aspect of the role. Furthermore, the specialist will maintain the diocesan website (kcsjcatholic.org), ensuring timely and accurate information is a priority while working with various offices to update functionality and improve user experience. Utilizing photography and video to create engaging creative designs, interactive experiences, compelling marketing materials, and documenting events and milestones are also part of the job.
