About the position

The Graphic Designer at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) plays a crucial role in the University Marketing and Public Relations (UMPR) team, focusing on enhancing the University's brand image through visual content creation. This position involves designing visual content for digital storytelling, developing graphic and multimedia strategies, and providing guidance on best practices. The role requires collaboration across campus and supports institutional priorities such as student recruitment and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and creates visual content using various forms such as text, audio, images, photography, animations, video, and interactive content.
  • Provides designs that adhere to accessibility and brand standards.
  • Maintains brand identity, design standards, and policies.
  • Creates and adheres to visual identity standards.
  • Promotes design best practices and helps monitor the digital asset management tool for the university.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the university's brand assets and reviews designs for compliance with brand guidelines.
  • Consults on graphic and multimedia strategies for University units and colleges.
  • Coordinates the creation and implementation of design assets for efficiency, flexibility, and usability.
  • Completes professional development and training activities relevant to the position.
  • Stays current on content development trends.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree with two or more years of related experience or a combination of related education and work experience equal to six or more years.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Experience creating finished graphics for print and web.

  • Understanding of print production and prepress and designing for web.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
