The Graphic Designer I or II position at Brigham Young University (BYU) involves providing graphic design solutions and account management services for a variety of university communications efforts in both print and digital formats. The designer will collaborate with a team of communications professionals and engage in meaningful creative work, ensuring that all communications reflect the university's values and commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide graphic-design services to university clients, consulting on strategies for print, digital, and other communications projects.
  • Offer professional advice regarding concept, content, structure, usability, and user interface of communications.
  • Develop creative visual concepts and designs to meet client objectives and desires.
  • Commission and supervise art and photography for projects as required.
  • Collaborate with production personnel to ensure high production quality that meets specifications.
  • Evaluate the results of each project and determine required changes for future success.
  • Provide account-management services to university clients, managing accounts with repeated and ongoing projects.
  • Ensure timely project completion within budget parameters and communicate regularly with clients to build positive relationships.
  • Support other department and university projects by providing design assistance and contributing to large design projects.
  • Cultivate and share design expertise by staying abreast of best practices and trends in graphic design.

Requirements

  • Three years of study toward a bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field OR three years of professional graphic design experience OR an equivalent combination of study and experience.
  • Bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design or related field, plus one year of professional graphic design experience OR five years of professional graphic design experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Motion and video design skills and experience.
  • Standard knowledge of online production processes and technologies, including user-interface and user-experience design (UI/UX) for digital media.
