About the position

The Graphic Designer for Strategic Communication & Branding at UTMB Health plays a crucial role in supporting the university's strategic priorities through creative design. This position is responsible for creating engaging digital and print materials that promote awareness of UTMB Health's mission areas, including patient care, research, innovation, and education. The designer will collaborate with various internal teams and stakeholders to effectively communicate the university's messages and initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create visually dynamic digital and print collateral, including logos, website graphics, social media graphics, fliers, banners, advertisements, and other marketing or event outreach materials.
  • Assist in the development of typesetting, layout, and design concepts for various projects in the university's innovation, research, clinical, and education mission areas.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate creative ideas and concepts.
  • Follow brand guidelines to develop consistent campaign materials across various media.
  • Prepare and present design drafts for feedback, revision, and approval within the design and branding team.
  • Use a project management tool for design projects to collaborate with team members from across the organization, including the Academic Enterprise and the Health System.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, tools, and design techniques.
  • Incorporate motion graphics and animations into designs as a plus.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in graphic design, visual arts, illustration, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of related graphic design experience.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing a variety of print and digital design projects.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Ability to take constructive feedback and articulate design choices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with co-workers in digital, content, media, design, and social media teams.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with basic web design and familiarity with HTML/CSS is a plus.
  • Incorporating motion graphics and animations into designs.
