About the position

This position at RRD is focused on the creative execution of concepts and designs for retail circular pages, direct mail, and collateral material. The role requires a strong ability to create visually compelling messages that align with the creative strategy and ensure that projects are completed on schedule. The successful candidate will work onsite in Phoenix and will be responsible for defining work based on both short-term and long-term departmental goals. This includes independently evaluating processes, identifying areas for improvement, and incorporating these insights into overall work objectives. The designer will develop creative and graphic concepts for both web and print in collaboration with the assigned team. They will follow projects through all stages of print production and/or online deployment, providing production support to ensure that all materials are technically correct and print-ready. Regular interaction with creative leadership, partners, and team members is essential for the successful completion of assigned projects. The designer will interpret marketing ideas and translate them into visual realities at a world-class level, while also receiving and utilizing feedback from management to enhance their skills. Ownership of projects is crucial, as the designer must successfully execute all stages of creative development while adhering to targets, timelines, and budgets. Maintaining and enhancing the client's identity through creative work within the corporate brand is a key responsibility. The designer must understand the client's design needs and methodology, and communicate effectively with peers, senior management, and clients on various topics ranging from business to creative aspects. Additionally, the role may involve performing other related duties and participating in special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Define work based on evaluation of short-term and long-term goals of the department.
  • Independently evaluate processes, identify areas of improvement, and incorporate them into overall work objectives.
  • Develop creative and graphic concepts (for web and print) in collaboration with the assigned team.
  • Follow projects throughout all stages of print production and/or online deployment.
  • Provide production support to produce technically correct, print-ready mechanicals for release.
  • Interact regularly with creative leadership, creative partners, and other team members as needed for completion of assigned projects.
  • Interpret marketing ideas and turn them into visual reality at a world-class level.
  • Receive feedback from management and use that feedback to grow skills.
  • Solve business challenges through marketing and smart creative design.
  • Take ownership of projects, and successfully execute through all stages of creative development on target, on time, and on budget.
  • Maintain and enhance the client's identity by working creatively within the corporate Brand.
  • Understand the client's design needs and methodology.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, senior management, and clients across all topics from business to creative.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the function of work with 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Possess a strong developing portfolio of imaginative work.
  • Well-versed on Macintosh platform (OSX) and industry-standard applications: Adobe CC, with MS Office and HTML a plus.
  • New ideas, great design sense, and copywriting skills are a plus.
  • Organizational skills, adaptability, and composure under fire are equally important.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to build and maintain strong and effective client and internal relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to listen for understanding to execute the work according to the customers' needs.
  • Strong project management skills, organizational skills, and time-management skills.
  • Able to communicate clearly and courteously with those who need to know about decisions/actions/problems.
  • Must be able to modify communication style both formal and informal to match the appropriate level of the audience targeted.
