About the position

The University of Pennsylvania, a prestigious Ivy League institution and the largest private employer in Philadelphia, is seeking a Graphic Designer to join its Marketing Communications team. This role is pivotal in developing strategically-driven, brand-compliant creative collateral for the Penn Museum. The Graphic Designer will work under the supervision of the Senior Art & Editorial Director, focusing on a variety of projects that include digital materials for the website, marketing campaigns, social media, emails, ads, and animated promotions. Additionally, the designer will create print materials such as flyers, brochures, event programs, invitations, sections of the Expedition magazine, banners, and outdoor graphics. The ideal candidate will also support Marketing Communications needs with occasional onsite photography and will be responsible for managing a digital asset database. This includes curating highlighted images, applying metadata for searchability, and maintaining a consistent dating and labeling system. The Graphic Designer will also assist in maintaining the Museum's on-site wayfinding system, ensuring that all visual communications reflect the institution's commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA). The role requires a highly organized individual who is detail-oriented and capable of meeting tight deadlines while managing multiple projects simultaneously. Collaboration and openness to feedback are essential traits for success in this position, as the designer will be part of a larger team serving various departments within the Museum.

Responsibilities

  • Create digital materials for the website, marketing campaigns, social media, emails, ads, and animated promos that meet usability and accessibility standards.
  • Design a variety of print materials including flyers, brochures, event programs, invitations, sections of Expedition magazine, banners, and outdoor graphics.
  • Support Marketing Communications strategic needs by shooting occasional onsite photography as assigned.
  • Manage digital assets, including curation of highlighted images, metadata and keywording for searchability, and managing captions and photo credits.
  • Assist in the design, production, and installation of wayfinding graphics.
  • Coordinate with print vendors, oversee installation of graphics, and process invoices for design projects.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in digital design, graphic design, or a related field required; BFA/BA preferred.
  • 3-5 years of design and production experience for digital and print required.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software on a Mac platform, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, and After Effects.
  • Ability to work within established brand guidelines and maintain design consistency across media platforms.
  • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple projects at once.
  • Collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively with others as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • BFA/BA in digital design, graphic design, or a related field.
  • Strong asset management and organization skills for file management.
  • Basic photography skills including familiarity using a DSLR camera and image editing experience.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and web accessibility.
  • Working knowledge of print and digital production processes and optimizing final files for delivery.
  • Project and vendor management experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
