About the position

The Graphic Designer at the Dallas Museum of Art plays a crucial role in enhancing the museum's visual identity through high-quality print and digital communications. This position involves collaborating with the Experience team to create original designs that support attendance and revenue-generating initiatives, ensuring a consistent brand-focused aesthetic across all materials. The designer will oversee production processes, manage budgets, and maintain the museum's graphic standards while working closely with various departments and external contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Design, produce, and oversee production of graphic projects including marketing and advertising materials, institutional publications, and signage.
  • Implement and maintain the visual application of the Museum's brand and ensure adherence to graphic standards.
  • Collaborate on web-based communications, including e-newsletters and social media content.
  • Oversee external contractors for design and production of graphics.
  • Consult with freelance artists and agencies for creative concepts and deliverables.
  • Assist in protecting the Museum's copyright and that of the artworks.
  • Stay informed about current production methods and media innovations.
  • Track materials for timely installation of graphic elements and ensure accuracy of text.
  • Manage production schedules, negotiate costs, and ensure quality control of graphics projects.
  • Prepare and recommend budgets for graphic projects and maintain inventory of graphics equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a closely related field or comparable work experience required.
  • 1-2 years' experience in a graphic design role preferred.
  • Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Acrobat on Mac OSX platform.
  • Excellent judgment in creating designs with compelling typography, color palettes, and layouts.
  • Superior graphic design skills and ability to visually communicate brand standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration.
  • Strong organizational planning, budgetary, and project timeline abilities.
  • Ability to solve problems and prioritize needs in fast-paced situations.
  • Detail-oriented with accurate typing/keyboarding skills.
  • Experience in media, marketing, and advertising.
