About the position

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is seeking a talented Graphic Designer to join our dynamic team. This position is crucial for the creation and production of high-quality graphic materials specifically for the Office of Family Health Services (OFHS) and the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) programs. The materials developed in this role will have a significant impact across the state of Virginia, reaching a diverse audience and contributing to public health initiatives. The Graphic Designer will work closely with both internal and external clients to produce visually appealing materials that adhere to VDH brand standards and support effective, evidence-based communication strategies. In this role, the Graphic Designer will be responsible for collaborating with internal customers to design and complete illustrations and graphics for various projects, including presentations, marketing campaigns, health education materials, recruitment materials, and displays. The designer will utilize industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and may also work with motion graphics software to create professional visuals in both static and animated formats. It is essential that all graphic materials produced align with VDH brand standards and contribute to the development of effective communication tools that are evidence-based. The Graphic Designer will manage multiple graphic design projects, ensuring that deadlines are met, progress reports are accurate, and a clear scope of work is maintained. Additionally, the designer will assist with website design and updates using WordPress, ensuring compliance with VDH brand guidelines. The role also involves developing and scheduling engaging social media graphics aimed at driving health behavior changes, contributing to the Office of Health Services content calendar by creating evergreen graphics and infographics, and serving as a resource for internal customers by providing assistance with desktop publishing and graphic layout suggestions. The designer will facilitate the timely completion of purchasing documents related to graphics and publication orders and act as a liaison between internal and external customers on graphics-related projects, including print orders. Support for video production may also be required as needed, along with other duties assigned, including assistance during emergency declarations.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Proficiency in graphic design, with an emphasis on creating visuals for marketing and communication purposes.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with website design principles (specifically WordPress).
  • Strong understanding of visual design principles and best practices (color theory, composition, typography).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with clients and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
