About the position

The Graphic Designer at Florida International University (FIU) is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and producing various printed advertising, branding, apparel, and collateral materials for students and student organizations within Student Life and Development. This role involves collaborating with students to understand their design needs, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and ensuring timely completion of designs. The designer will also work with vendors for printing and marketing materials, supervise design interns, and assist in event staffing for large department programs.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualizes, designs, and produces printed advertising, branding, apparel, and collateral materials for students and/or student organizations.
• Meets with student groups to discuss inspiration and advises them on proper design direction for projects.
• Communicates best technological practices to staff for completing projects or marketing campaigns.
• Specializes in hand-drawn illustrations and converting them to high-resolution digital files.
• Edits and creates video/animated promos for student groups and departments.
• Works with print vendors to order, print, and receive materials.
• Obtains quotes and invoices for printed marketing material for student groups and/or departments.
• Helps supervise lower-level student design interns.
• Maintains project management software (Trello) to record and manage projects orderly and within deadlines.
• Attends and works as event staff for large department programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
• Two (2) years of appropriate experience in graphic design.
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and InDesign.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous graphic design experience.
• Minimal photography experience.
