About the position

The Graphic Designer position at Stanford University's Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of undergraduate programs through creative design solutions. This role is pivotal in supporting the communications objectives of VPUE, which serves as a hub for undergraduate innovation and engagement. As a Graphic Designer, you will work under the general creative direction of the communications director, taking charge of various design projects that span the organization. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with internal partners to develop design concepts that align with VPUE's branding efforts and communications strategies. In this role, you will be responsible for managing projects from initial contact through to delivery, ensuring that all designs meet pre-established specifications and quality standards. You will create designs for a variety of platforms, including digital projects, and maintain quality control throughout the design process. Your work will involve using job-required software applications to develop materials that adhere to defined requirements, inspecting proofs for accuracy, and ensuring compliance with digital accessibility standards. Additionally, you will coordinate workflow between design development and external vendors, ensuring that all projects are executed efficiently and effectively. To succeed in this position, you will need a strong understanding of contemporary graphic design principles, project management skills, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. You will also be expected to stay updated on industry standards and trends, which will help you enhance the services provided by the VPUE. This role not only requires technical skills but also the ability to work collaboratively with others, presenting creative work that effectively communicates the benefits of your design solutions to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for VPUE-wide projects from internal partner contact through delivery.
  • Work closely with VPUE's communications director and internal clients to complete design projects using pre-established specifications.
  • Collaborate with multiple internal partners to develop design concepts and solutions to achieve desired results.
  • Create designs for a variety of platforms, including layout for digital projects, starting from an initial concept and thinking through broader solutions.
  • Maintain quality control of content in support of design strategy and execution.
  • Use job-required software applications and mediums to develop and design materials according to defined requirements.
  • Inspect proofs for accuracy and adherence to appropriate production standards.
  • Ensure content specification and design guidelines are utilized organization-wide in support of VPUE branding efforts.
  • Coordinate workflow between design development and external vendors to evaluate and ensure quality and process.
  • Verify that all digital accessibility compliance requirements are met at the conclusion of the design process.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry standards, trends and state-of-the-art technology to provide and enhance services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and three years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary graphic design principles.
  • Strong project management skills in a throughline from concept to project delivery.
  • Clear comprehension of digital accessibility best practices.
  • Ability to work around an initial concept and think in terms of broad solutions.
  • Ability to present creative work that leads clients through the benefits and varied considerations of recommended creative solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of Adobe Creative Cloud software applications and mediums, including browser usability and cross platform compatibility, as well as design and formatting for email marketing platforms such as MailChimp.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, deadlines, and internal partner needs.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and communication (both written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to perform detailed work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge in industry standards, trends, and technical knowledge.
  • Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team.
