About the position

The Graphic Designer at the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is responsible for creating high-quality visual designs and communications that support the agency's mission to enhance the well-being of children and families in Virginia. This role involves conceptualizing, designing, and producing a variety of digital and print materials, ensuring adherence to branding guidelines and effective messaging. The designer will collaborate with various departments to develop engaging visual assets that improve user experience and facilitate informative communication.

Responsibilities

  • Create high-quality visual designs and communications for the agency.
  • Conceptualize, design, and produce digital and print materials including graphics for presentations and promotional materials.
  • Ensure adherence to branding guidelines and effective messaging in all designs.
  • Collaborate with various departments to understand their graphic needs and provide direct support.
  • Develop engaging visual assets that improve user experience and facilitate communication.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in graphic design, particularly for marketing and communication purposes.
  • Strong understanding of graphic and visual design principles, including color theory, composition, and typography.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with web design principles.
  • Experience in communicating and collaborating with clients and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Computer experience including Microsoft Office Suite.
