About the position

The Graphic Designer at Tarleton State University plays a crucial role in the preparation, coordination, and creation of both print and digital materials for the Office of Marketing and Communications. This position is integral to supporting the university's mission through effective visual communication. The Graphic Designer will be responsible for designing a variety of materials, including brochures, flyers, advertisements, and signs, ensuring that all designs adhere to the university's Graphic Identity Standards and Publications Guidelines. The role requires a blend of creativity and technical skills, as the designer will utilize text, photographs, illustrations, and other materials to produce high-quality publications. In addition to design work, the Graphic Designer will engage with client departments to discuss project expectations and possibilities, providing rough drafts for approval and making necessary adjustments based on feedback. This collaborative aspect of the role is essential for ensuring that the final products meet the needs of various stakeholders within the university. The designer will also maintain the logo repository, ensuring the integrity and consistency of university logos and unit marks, which is vital for brand management. The work schedule is typically Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, although flexibility is required as work demands may dictate. The ability to work remotely at the request of the university adds an additional layer of adaptability to this position, allowing for a dynamic work environment that can respond to the needs of the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Provides graphic design of editorial and graphic materials for print and digital materials and publications, including brochures, flyers, advertisements, and signs.
  • Meets with client departments to discuss publications projects, expectations, and possibilities.
  • Provides rough drafts of graphic design for approval and makes adjustments as directed.
  • Maintains the logo repository, ensuring the integrity and consistency of university logos and unit marks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience in print and web-based communications.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of writing, reporting, and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of graphic design, photography, web design, and social media.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in art, graphics, marketing, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of professional work experience in graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience preferred with social media of all types, photography and web design.
