About the position

The Graphic Designer position at the University of New Mexico (UNM) is a full-time role within the Health Sciences Marketing and Communications team. This position is crucial in supporting the clinical, academic, and research missions of the institution through compelling and creative graphic design. The ideal candidate will possess a strong portfolio showcasing their previous work and must be highly proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (CC). The role requires a tech-savvy individual who can develop polished designs that effectively promote various initiatives of the institution. The Graphic Designer will be responsible for producing fresh, exciting, and brand-compliant designs, illustrations, infographics, and layouts for both digital and print media. Collaboration with other team members is essential to ensure that layouts, imagery, and messaging align with the overall marketing strategy. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic about being part of an integrated marketing and communications team. They should be able to take direction from administrators, managers, and fellow team members while adjusting and prioritizing projects as needed. The ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines is critical in this fast-paced environment. Candidates should have a design/illustration portfolio, preferably online, that highlights their creative skills and work experience. The position also requires compliance with the University’s influenza vaccination requirement for employees working in patient care or clinical areas. Responsibilities

  • Support clinical, academic, and research missions with creative graphic design.
  • Produce brand-compliant designs, illustrations, infographics, and layouts for digital and print.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and communications team on content alignment.
  • Adjust and prioritize assigned projects based on urgency and importance.
  • Manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor while multi-tasking.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 3 years of experience in graphic design or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Lightroom, Premiere, After Effects, and other related software.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree in graphic design or a related field.
  • Experience working within a health system or university setting.
  • Additional experience with motion graphics and extended Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Technical skills in digital photography and Lightroom.
