About the position

Aptive is seeking a Graphic Designer with proven experience developing a variety of traditional and digital creative materials to support a federal client with IT-related communications strategies and services. The Graphic Designer will be responsible for creating simple publication designs and graphic design development for large-scale communications and outreach campaigns for the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role involves producing deliverables that help communicate complex topics to a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Work products include, but are not limited to, web and presentation graphics, fact sheets, posters and flyers, branding templates, infographics, social media and blog visuals, and logos and icons. In addition to design work, the Graphic Designer will assist with defining and influencing strategy and will work directly with clients to create concepts and develop designs. The ideal candidate is expected to lead and support creative development while effectively communicating within a multi-disciplinary team environment. A self-starter, proactive problem-solver, and action-oriented team player is essential for this role. The candidate must be committed to providing superior service, remain poised in a fast-paced environment, and maintain a positive and flexible attitude. The expected compensation for this position ranges between $80,000 and $90,000, and it offers medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with additional benefits such as 401K, disability insurance, and paid time off. This is a full-time, hybrid position with occasional meetings in the client's Washington D.C. office.

Responsibilities

  • Develop products that support national communications and outreach campaigns to a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Create a wide range of products for communications campaigns including web and presentation graphics, fact sheets, posters and flyers, branding templates, infographics, social media and blog visuals, and logos and icons.
  • Plan, generate and deliver client-ready materials for stakeholders, including client leadership.
  • Provide rapid response support for VA Office of Information Technology senior leadership requests.
  • Deploy novel technologies and design methodologies to execute the client's vision.
  • Proven experience in managing small projects and meeting deadlines.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in graphic design/arts
  • BS/BA degree in graphic design/art, or a related field of study
  • Portfolio required
  • Proven experience in managing projects and meeting deadlines
  • Experienced in Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and collaboration tools, including Zoom, Box, and Slack
  • Experience managing all aspects of creative production, from concept to distribution
  • Ability to obtain a public trust clearance
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with conceptual design, logo development, branding and marketing work in the healthcare sector
  • Strong time management, creativity and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of concepting and implementation of visual elements (layout, typography and color theory)
  • Adeptness with leading design software packages, including Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues; desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
  • Capable self-starter with a drive to get all types of work done and high attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Active VA PIV card is preferred.
