About the position

The Royal Caribbean Creative Development & Advanced Concept Design Studio, also known as the Creative Studio, is on a mission to enhance current product offerings while envisioning future capabilities for the company. This role is pivotal in applying creative insights to improve guest and crew experiences across various touchpoints. The Graphic and Production Design Manager will lead graphic design-centric projects, provide production design support, and contribute to cross-category projects that extend beyond traditional 2-dimensional design. This position emphasizes prototype fabrication and construction, making it essential for the manager to have a strong grasp of both visual and physical design processes. As a hybrid designer, the Graphic and Production Design Manager will be expected to work across various product categories and scales, from small artifacts to large environments. The role requires flexibility in handling diverse projects, whether they involve entertainment concepts, food and beverage initiatives, or logistics improvements. The manager will collaborate closely with the Creative Studio leadership and team members, as well as Product Development resources, to deliver integrated project solutions that enhance the overall guest and crew experience. The responsibilities include serving as a subject matter expert in graphic and production design, leading efforts in logo design, branding, typography, and layout, while also supporting broader production design needs. The manager will participate in strategic ideation processes, conduct research, and contribute to the development of comprehensive experience concepts. This role is crucial for driving innovation and ensuring that design solutions are not only visually appealing but also functional and aligned with the company's goals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Creative Studio leadership and team members to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Lead graphic design-centric projects, addressing graphic design challenges such as logo design, branding, and typography.
  • Assist with packaging, interaction, UI/X, and motion design needs as required.
  • Create compelling presentations of design outcomes and present them to stakeholders.
  • Generate directional concepts to leverage the larger studio team's efforts and produce final design assets.
  • Create new design standards, templates, and materials to ensure continuity across the team and organization.
  • Support production design needs for the broader Product Development department, including visual asset creation and editing.
  • Participate in strategic ideation processes to identify guest and crew needs and determine project vision.
  • Drive primary and secondary research focused on guest and crew experiences.
  • Produce relevant graphic design assets for comprehensive experience concepts and contribute to cross-category design challenges.
  • Provide design input on initial ideas and prototype designs for fabrication.
  • Contribute to the fabrication of physical prototypes through various means, from rough models to show-ready demos.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design (Graphic Design preferred); Master's Degree a plus.
  • Minimum 10+ years' experience as a Graphic Designer with 2-5 years of experience in creative management preferred.
  • Exceptional graphic design skillset, including logo design, branding, composition, and typography.
  • Broad design perspective with a T-Shaped skillset, combining deep expertise in graphic design with diverse knowledge across relevant areas.
  • Excellent creative and conceptual thinking skills, with a willingness to tackle any design challenge.
  • Strong visual communication skills, biased towards 'showing not telling.'
  • Hands-on approach to new design challenges, inclined towards making and testing.
  • Basic understanding of human factors and rapid prototyping technology is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills for presentations and persuasion.
  • Demonstrable variety in design capabilities across product categories and scales.
  • Strong sense of empathy for user perspectives and decisiveness in solution-making.
  • Ability to distill complex design challenges into clear directions for collaborators and leadership.
  • Ability to bundle big ideas and micro details into concise design packages for stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with packaging, interaction, UI/X, and motion design.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping technologies such as CNC and laser cutting.
