About the position

The position involves collaborating with internal and external teams to design and prototype user experiences while ensuring functionality and simplicity in workflows. The role requires defining design rationale, researching modern web technologies, and developing estimates for project scopes. The candidate will also be responsible for creating reusable design libraries, ensuring technical feasibility of UI/UX designs, and supporting enhancements to accessibility and usability in compliance with government standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to conceptualize, design, and prototype user experiences.
  • Define design rationale and explain visual choices to cross-functional teams.
  • Research and implement modern web technologies to create innovative user interfaces.
  • Develop estimates on scope and duration of work required for client requirements.
  • Build efficient, reusable libraries of design information for future use.
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs.
  • Translate architecture and other technical solutions into design products.
  • Recommend and support incremental implementation of enhancements to accessibility, usability, and sustainability.
  • Support UI enhancements that leverage CDE concepts to improve organization, search, and retrieval.
  • Consult and make recommendations on UI improvements.
  • Produce wireframes or mockups as requested.
  • Produce graphics, logos, etc., in support of UI improvements and alignment with NIH/NLM digital guidelines.
  • Support design, development, and testing of applications, websites, and future APIs, and produce relevant documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of two years of work experience with Federal Clients
  • Knowledge of best practices in UI/UX design, website usability, and accessibility
  • Experience in producing wireframes and mockups
  • Strong ability to liaise between various stakeholders
  • Knowledge of 508 compliance

Nice-to-haves

  • Excellent communication skills for coordination and strategizing with leadership
  • Experience working in agile, waterfall, or hybrid projects
