About the position

VOCAL Technologies Ltd. is actively seeking a Graphic User Interface (GUI) Developer to join our team in Buffalo, New York. This is a full-time contracted role focused on developing an interface for a unique software product. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in the design and implementation of user interfaces, ensuring that they are not only visually appealing but also functional and user-friendly. The GUI Developer will be responsible for creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups that align with the project’s vision and requirements. This position requires a blend of creativity and technical skills, as the developer will need to interpret design concepts into web content that includes branding, typography, layout, image production, and user experience considerations. In this role, the GUI Developer will test the appearance and functionality of web content across multiple browsers, platforms, and screen sizes to ensure a consistent user experience. Collaboration is key, as the developer will work closely with engineers to ensure that designs are technically feasible and meet all project requirements. Staying current with design trends and best practices is essential, as the developer will be expected to incorporate these into their designs. Additionally, the role involves communicating design concepts and decisions to client stakeholders and team members, ensuring that everyone is aligned with the project goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in web UI/UX design, with 3-5 years of professional experience, particularly in software product or consulting environments. Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, or Figma is required, along with a solid understanding of modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with client-side JavaScript frameworks or libraries, such as React, Angular, or Ember, is also essential. The ability to create custom graphics and icons tailored to business requirements, as well as graphic data models and graphs, will be a significant advantage. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and be comfortable working independently or as part of a small team, often in a remote setting. A portfolio showcasing previous UI design projects is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for applications.
• Interpret design and vision into web content, including branding, typography, layout, image production, page integration and user experience.
• Test appearance and functionality of web content in multiple browsers, platforms and screen sizes.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs are technically feasible and meet requirements.
• Stay up-to-date with design trends and best practices, and incorporate them into your designs.
• Ensure adherence to standards through reviews of developed pages.
• Communicate design concepts and decisions to client stakeholders and team members.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of professional web UI / UX design experience working with software product or consulting companies.
• Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, or Figma.
• Knowledge of modern HTML/CSS/JS.
• Fluency in one or more client-side JavaScript framework or library (React, Angular, Ember).
• Experience with front-end development languages such as jQuery and Bootstrap.
• Experience creating custom graphics and icons specific to business requirements.
• Experience creating graphic data models and graphs.
• Collaborate with back-end developers to deliver high-quality, scalable, and innovative web solutions.
• Ability to assess and improve the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design of the product.
• Ability to work independently or in a small team environment with minimal supervision.
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
• Experience working with a remote team.
• Demonstrated creative, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills, strong collaborative skills, strong written and verbal communication.
• Experience with SQL databases is a plus.
• Understanding of networking concepts (SIP, VoIP, etc.) is a plus.
• A portfolio highlighting your UI design projects (if available) is a plus.
