About the position

The Graphics Security Research Intern will work within the Core Graphics and AI IP organization at Intel, focusing on developing custom tools to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities in graphics systems. The intern will specifically pilot the use of memory-safe programming languages in embedded firmware for Risc-V microcontrollers, transitioning existing C code to Rust, and conducting validation and performance testing to demonstrate effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Pilot the use of memory safe languages in embedded firmware on Risc-V microcontrollers.
  • Rewrite existing kernel code from C to Rust.
  • Perform validation and performance testing to demonstrate effectiveness of the new implementation.
  • Collaborate with development teams to mitigate security vulnerabilities.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline with a focus on security.
  • 3+ months of academic/project or work experience in Git/GitHub and source control management best practices.
  • Experience in firmware programming, ideally in both C and Rust.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of security research activities such as fuzzing, pen testing, and threat modeling.
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of Rust and C programming languages.
  • Experience with Risc-V microcontrollers.
  • Familiarity with QEMU, Zephyr RTOS, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of Graphics, Media, and Display architecture.
