About the position

The Project Coordinator for the Generations Cafe under the Great Rivers Adult Education initiative is a pivotal role designed to enhance adult education through practical training and community engagement. This position is funded under the IEL Civics Grant and focuses on providing on-the-job training to adults who are learning English as a Second Language. The coordinator will lead various educational programs, including English as a Second Language classes, food handler and manager licensure training, and other adult education initiatives. The role requires a strong commitment to community outreach, partnership development, and program implementation to ensure the success of the Generations Cafe and its interns. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for teaching and mentoring interns, facilitating communication with community partners, and connecting individuals to educational resources. This includes guiding adults in education planning, life skills, and career development while also supporting district parents who speak languages other than English. The coordinator will play a key role in enhancing the program's visibility in the community by representing it at various functions and organizing events that promote educational opportunities. In addition to teaching and outreach, the coordinator will manage administrative tasks such as data collection, inventory control, and promotional material preparation. This multifaceted role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. The coordinator will work closely with supervisors and management to keep them informed of program developments and challenges, ensuring a collaborative and effective working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project leadership and support outreach efforts under the IEL Civics Grant.
  • Teach Generations Cafe Interns under the guidance of the grant.
  • Connect community organizations to Great Rivers to develop partnerships for education.
  • Facilitate communications with community partners for On the Job Training.
  • Direct adults in education planning, life skills, careers, and community resources.
  • Network and support district parents with a first language other than English regarding free English classes.
  • Assist in implementing new programs and events to enhance community presence.
  • Represent the program at community functions as needed.
  • Arrange meetings with individuals and groups to identify resources for educational needs.
  • Gather data and statistics, track equipment and supplies, and perform inventory control and purchasing duties.
  • Prepare announcements, email blasts, bulletins, flyers, and other promotional materials.
  • Keep supervisors and management informed of daily problems, developments, and accomplishments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Teaching License
  • Advanced competency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Docs.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply conflict resolution and mediation skills effectively.
  • Prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.
  • Demonstrates appreciation for diversity in interactions and job functions.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and conditions.
