About the position

The Greenways Project Lead will play a crucial role in the Office of Livable Streets, focusing on the development and enhancement of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in York City. This position involves strategic planning, community engagement, and the implementation of complete street designs to improve safety, accessibility, and livability across the city. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and the ability to manage projects effectively while adhering to city, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead visioning and street design efforts for greenway development.
  • Conduct research and formulate public campaigns and presentations for complete street implementation.
  • Prepare maps and technical drawings using AutoCAD, Illustrator, GIS, and other graphic tools.
  • Manage project implementation and collaborate with operational units and contractors.
  • Engage in community outreach related to bicycle lanes and complete streets design.
  • Coordinate with other DOT units, government agencies, and community groups.
  • Present at public meetings with community boards, public officials, and local businesses.
  • Review traffic studies to assess impacts and communicate results for implementation.
  • Create presentations and materials to demonstrate proposed improvements to the public.
  • Handle correspondence, including responses to press inquiries.
  • Conduct fieldwork as required.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community-centered activities; or a high school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in similar activities; or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • At least one year of experience in community work or community-centered activities as described above.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong creative and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience or interest in transportation dynamics, transportation policy, bike share, and/or cycling.
  • Experience working with the public and community groups.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience or interest in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Possession of a valid York State Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  • Strong interest in cycling on NYC streets.
