About the position

The Grid Applications / Operations Engineer plays a crucial role in upgrading and maintaining the infrastructure necessary for operating the modern distribution grid. This entry-level position is designed to develop technical expertise in specific areas, ensuring that intelligent field devices communicate effectively and that advanced distribution management system applications perform optimally. The engineer will manage the installation and specification of applications, monitor grid management tools, and provide engineering support to control centers across various jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

  • Use and apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to perform activities/assignments of limited scope.
  • Support the development of technical documentation including designs, testing, calculations, and reports.
  • Provide ongoing technical support for project activities within Operations, Maintenance, Testing/diagnostics, and Regulatory areas.
  • Coordinate or lead projects or portions of projects under the direction of a higher-level engineer or supervisor.
  • Support bid/evaluation processes by performing basic analysis and calculations on existing documentation and materials.
  • Effectively exchange information on matters of importance and complexity with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the work of interns, drafters, technicians, and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Accountable for the selection and implementation of tools for monitoring and maintaining the distribution grid.
  • Support Control Center Operations on system performance, grid efficiency, and system status reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum (electrical engineering preferred).
  • 0+ years relevant engineering experience for entry-level; 2+ years for staff level; 5+ years for senior level; 9+ years for principal level.
  • Ability to demonstrate unique technical skills and core competencies established by the organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) preferred for entry and staff levels.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) registration preferred for senior and principal levels.
