About the position

The Grief Counselor for the SandCastles program provides essential grief support to children and families who have experienced a death. This role involves facilitating support groups, conducting assessments, and coordinating evening programming. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, as it primarily involves afternoon and evening hours, with occasional weekend commitments for camp coverage. The counselor will work in a hybrid model, balancing time between the office, community program sites, and remote work.

Responsibilities

• Provide grief support to children and families in group settings.
• Conduct assessments and intake for children, teens, and adults into support groups.
• Identify families needing further assessment and referrals to outside agencies.
• Handle crisis situations and coordinate evening programming at multiple sites.
• Serve as a liaison between the SandCastles program, hospice program, and the community through outreach and education.
• Transport supplies to community program sites and assist with setup and takedown at events.

Requirements

• Master's Degree in counseling, social work, or psychology.
• Current State of Michigan clinical licensure (LLPC, LPC, LLMSW, LMSW, LLP).
• Previous experience working with bereavement and children's issues preferred.
• Knowledge of grief and loss, supervision of volunteers, and group facilitation.
• Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities.
