GRIEVANCE COORDINATOR

About the position

The Grievance Coordinator is responsible for managing the grievance process for detainees at the facility, including receiving, investigating, and responding to grievances. This role involves maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance with agency procedures, and recommending corrective actions when necessary. The position is integral to fostering a supportive environment for detainees and ensuring their concerns are addressed appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Assist inmates/detainees in filing grievances through informal communication procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of detainees' grievances and any corresponding actions taken.
• Investigate grievances and recommend response actions to management.
• Ensure compliance with client agency procedures regarding inmate/detainee grievances.
• Recommend corrective actions to management when warranted.
• Perform other administrative and investigative duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
• Minimum of two (2) years as a Correctional Officer required.
• Experience working with prisoner populations or in a physical education program is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to write communications, documents, policies, and other required correspondence.
• Working knowledge of correctional program objectives, applicable court orders, and laws.
• Ability to command respect and confidence of detainees/staff and manage mental stress.

Nice-to-haves

• Degree in Physical Education, Recreational Therapy, or related field preferred.
• College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences or correctional services.
