About the position

The Grocery Associate position at T&T Supermarket involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring a high-quality shopping experience for customers. Reporting to the Grocery Department Manager, the associate will prepare various grocery products in advance, closely monitor product expiration dates, and provide excellent customer service. The role requires maintaining inventory and ensuring workplace cleanliness, which is essential for both safety and efficiency in the grocery department. In this role, you will be responsible for quality control during the receiving of products, managing inventory, and ensuring the quality of all grocery items, including cooler and frozen goods. You will implement the First In, First Out (FIFO) concept to maintain product freshness and execute procedures for handling expired products to minimize loss. Delivering exceptional customer service is a key aspect of this position; you will greet and assist customers enthusiastically, helping them with product selection and offering recommendations to enhance their shopping experience. Additionally, you will maintain a clean and organized workplace, ensuring that work tools are hygienic and ready for use. Familiarity with the location of various grocery items and staying informed about departmental promotions will enable you to assist customers effectively. You may also be assigned additional responsibilities by your superiors, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of the grocery department.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Capability to work in low temperature environments (0-4°C) and freezing environments (-18°C) occasionally.
  • Proficient in English; proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety protocols.
  • Related experience in handling grocery products is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment, accountability, and reliability in previous roles.
  • Good team player with the ability to collaborate and assist colleagues.
  • Strong organization, problem-solving, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Positive, proactive, and self-motivated work ethic.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a grocery or retail environment.
  • Bilingual skills, especially in Chinese languages.
