About the position
The Grocery/Assistant Department Leader plays a crucial role in supporting the Department Manager by overseeing the Grocery Department's operations, including staffing, training, and customer service. This position aims to maximize store sales and profits while adhering to company policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and ethical work environment. Responsibilities
- Assist the Department Manager in planning, organizing, staffing, training, and directing Grocery Department associates.
- Perform production and customer service functions.
- Maximize store sales and profits safely and ethically in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Organize work and fill department staffing needs as authorized by store management.
- Train and schedule associates to ensure prompt and courteous service to customers.
- Respond appropriately to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents, and questions.
Requirements
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
- Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and tactfully.
- Understanding of all key components of department operations, including managing people, merchandising, inventory management, and customer service.
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to employment practices and OSHA compliance.
- Qualified to operate power machinery and work with various job tools.
