About the position

The Grocery/Assistant Department Leader plays a crucial role in supporting the Department Manager by planning, organizing, staffing, training, and directing associates within the Grocery Department. This position focuses on maximizing store sales and profits while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures. The role emphasizes customer service, effective communication, and the demonstration of core company values such as respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Department Manager in planning and organizing the Grocery Department operations.
  • Train and direct Grocery Department associates to ensure effective performance.
  • Maximize store sales and profits in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate the company's core values in all interactions with customers and associates.
  • Respond to customer and associate comments, complaints, and requests in a professional manner.
  • Manage ordering and inventory using Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) in the absence of the Department Manager.
  • Ensure proper merchandising, pricing, and display of products in the department.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitary standards in the grocery areas and equipment.
  • Provide input on department budgets, goals, and results to the Department Manager.
  • Implement company initiatives and process improvements positively.

Requirements

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
  • Skills for effective production, merchandising, and customer service related to merchandise sales.
  • Understanding of key components of department operations including inventory management and labor scheduling.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to employment practices and OSHA compliance.
  • Ability to operate power machinery and various job tools.
