About the position

The Grocery/Lead Clerk at Fred Meyer is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while assisting the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals. This role involves maintaining a safe and clean environment, monitoring quality assurance standards, and embodying the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The position is integral to fostering a welcoming atmosphere for customers and ensuring product quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals.
  • Monitor established quality assurance standards.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for customers.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates with a positive attitude.
  • Answer customer questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
  • Inform customers of grocery specials.
  • Provide customers with fresh products that they have ordered.
  • Recommend grocery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Check product quality to ensure freshness and review 'sell by' dates.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of any repairs needed.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Report all safety risks or issues, including robbery, theft, or fraud.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtraction).

Nice-to-haves

  • Retail experience.
  • Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing).
