About the position

As a Grocery Management Assistant at Harris Teeter Inc., you will play a crucial role in the management and supervision of the Grocery Department, overseeing a team of up to 25 associates. This position may also involve responsibilities for the Health and Beauty Care (HBC) and General Merchandise (GM) Departments. Your primary focus will be to assist in the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. You will be expected to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Harris Teeter's policies and applicable laws, which includes a variety of tasks aimed at maintaining a productive and positive work environment. Your responsibilities will encompass interviewing and training new associates, planning and assigning work tasks, and directing the daily activities of your team. You will also assist in appraising performance, which involves providing feedback and support to your associates to help them grow in their roles. Additionally, you will be responsible for rewarding and disciplining team members as necessary, addressing complaints, and resolving any problems that may arise within the department. This position requires strong leadership skills, the ability to communicate effectively, and a commitment to upholding the standards of Harris Teeter.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing and supervising up to 25 associates in the Grocery Department.
  • May be assigned responsibility for the HBC/GM Department.
  • Assist with the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Grocery and HBC/GM Departments.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Harris Teeter's policies and applicable laws.
  • Interview and train associates in the Grocery Department.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work for associates.
  • Assist in appraising performance of team members.
  • Reward and discipline associates as necessary.
  • Address complaints and resolve problems within the department.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills to manage and supervise a team effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with associates and addressing issues.
  • Ability to train and develop team members.
  • Knowledge of retail operations and management practices.
