About the position

The Grocery/Receiving Clerk plays a vital role in creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service. This position involves maintaining a safe and clean environment, assisting the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals, and ensuring adherence to quality assurance standards. The clerk is expected to embrace the Customer 1st strategy and promote excellent customer service while demonstrating the company's core values.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals.
  • Monitor all established quality assurance standards.
  • Encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Report all safety risks or issues, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
  • Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Develop and train DSD Receiver backup.
  • Ensure maximum security of the receiving area.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs needed.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and logs are kept.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Manage inventory for all delivered products.
  • Process damaged/returned goods and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Check condition, accuracy of quantity, pricing, and temperature of received products.
  • Ensure shipping and receiving tools are functioning properly.
  • Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions to ensure ordering system integrity.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates with a positive attitude.
  • Work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Manage conflict in a reasonable and nonconfrontational manner.
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve issues.
  • Provide support and assistance to minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.

Requirements

  • Ability to collaborate and work cooperatively in a team-based environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Any receiving experience.
  • Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing).
  • Familiarity with industry/technical terms and processes.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.
