About the position

The Operations Manager for Ground and EMS Divisions at Carilion Clinic is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Patient Transportation department, which includes managing personnel, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing service quality. This role involves leadership in budget planning, performance improvement initiatives, and fostering employee engagement within a large team of EMS providers. The Operations Manager will work closely with various stakeholders to implement healthcare services and maintain high standards of patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for successful implementation of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Plan budget and manage expenses for the department.
  • Communicate, organize, prioritize, and lead staff to ensure goals are met.
  • Collaborate with service line leaders to implement new healthcare services and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Represent Carilion Clinic positively at public and professional meetings.
  • Oversee daily operations of the department in relation to goals and objectives.
  • Organize and manage departmental functions and resources for optimal performance.
  • Coordinate resources to ensure adequate staffing for the department.
  • Demonstrate effective team building and leadership skills.
  • Establish day-to-day priorities and direct staff task assignments.
  • Facilitate problem-solving processes within teams.
  • Monitor and evaluate customer satisfaction with services.
  • Develop and implement programs to enhance customer satisfaction in conjunction with senior management.
  • Facilitate professional growth and development through in-service programming and performance appraisals.
  • Implement department budget and monitor expenses.
  • Support service line mission, goals, and scorecard objectives.
  • Create a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality and safety of care provided by the department.
  • Communicate timely and accurate information to stakeholders.
  • Establish forums for open and proactive communication among staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; 4 years relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 3 years of clinical experience in emergency medical services required.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience in emergency medical services required.
  • Nationally Registered and Virginia State Intermediate or Paramedic certification required or Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia required at hire.
  • AHA BLS - HCP certification required.
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, and PHTLS or BTLS certifications required within one year from date of hire.
  • Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, team leadership, and priority setting skills.
  • Must maintain continuing education hours to meet re-certification status as required by State and National standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work experience in Air Medevac, Dispatch, Ground EMS, Pediatric-Neonatal transport care, Critical Care Nursing, or Transfer Center preferred.
