About the position

The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and safety of ground support equipment at airports. This position is essential for maintaining the operational efficiency of ground vehicles, which include trucks, transports, vans, and automobiles. As a member of the Ground Support team, the mechanic is responsible for performing repairs and maintenance on various types of ground support equipment, ensuring that all vehicles are in safe and working condition. The role requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. In this individual contributor role, the Ground Support Equipment Mechanic will prioritize repair needs, manage work orders, and keep track of parts necessary for maintenance. The mechanic will also analyze maintenance programs to identify areas for improvement and ensure that equipment is available and ready for use in the field. This position may require travel to other cities to perform repairs, highlighting the need for flexibility and adaptability in various working conditions, including inclement weather. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maintenance, particularly in automotive mechanics, heavy equipment, and electrical systems. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cost effective repair of ground support equipment.
  • Prioritize equipment repair needs.
  • Work with manager to provide adequate equipment to the field.
  • Maintain equipment in safe condition.
  • Keep track of parts and create work orders.
  • Analyze maintenance programs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Work with leads, supervisors and manager to provide responsive service to the station's repair needs.
  • Travel to other cities to repair equipment as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2 years maintenance experience, which may include experience with fabrication, auto body, automotive mechanics, heavy-equipment (diesel) mechanics, and electric vehicle and generator mechanics.
  • Ability to be qualified to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), and is not currently disqualified from operating a CMV.
  • Must be able to obtain a current DOT medical certificate.
  • Ability to provide a list of violations or the certificate required to qualify as a DOT driver under the provisions of the FMCSA as listed in the 49CFR.
  • Must have an adequate complement of own tools.
  • Authorization to enter and exit Canada.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to consistently lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, reach and grasp.
  • Ability to travel to other cities up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to work a variety of schedules to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work in some inclement weather conditions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to obtain airport security clearance.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
