The I79 Welcome Center Worker is responsible for performing custodial and maintenance operations to ensure that the West Virginia Welcome Center is maintained in a safe, attractive, clean, sanitary, and operable manner. This role involves a variety of tasks that contribute to the upkeep of the rest area service buildings, utility storage buildings, vending buildings, information shelters, and the grounds and parking areas. The worker will also be responsible for the on-site water and sewage disposal systems, ensuring that all areas are clean and functional for public use. The position requires the ability to work independently after a short training period, and the worker must be capable of operating a utility vehicle, such as a gator. Familiarity with basic custodial and grounds maintenance tools is essential, including mops, brooms, mowers, blowers, janitorial carts, vacuum cleaners, snow shovels, and street brooms. The worker will be expected to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs, which may include filled mop buckets, large trash bags, and boxed supplies. Additionally, the role involves pushing and pulling equipment such as mowers and shovels, and mixing and using standard cleaning chemicals like bleach and sanitizers. The worker must be flexible with their schedule, as they may be required to work any of the three shifts: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, 4:00 pm - 12:00 am, or 12:00 am - 8:00 am, often with short notice. Reliable transportation to and from the work site is also necessary.
