About the position
The Grounds Technician I is responsible for performing routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on the grounds and landscaping of the Wind Creek Chicago Southland Casino. This role involves caring for turf grass, shrubs, trees, and other plants, as well as maintaining various outdoor facilities and infrastructure to ensure a welcoming environment for guests. The position requires a commitment to safety and adherence to operational standards while engaging positively with the community and guests.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repair on grounds, parking garage, and landscaping.
- Care for turf grass, shrubs, trees, and other plants, including seeding, watering, and mulching.
- Inspect plant materials for insects, disease, and damage, and identify replacements.
- Mow lawns, trim and edge around trees and shrubs, and clean flower beds.
- Set up, adjust, repair, and clean irrigation systems.
- Install, remove, and maintain landscape lighting and signs.
- Remove trash and debris from public areas and maintain cleanliness of grounds.
- Operate light vehicles and groundskeeping equipment safely and effectively.
- Participate in snow removal operations and maintain safety on walkways during winter.
- Perform minor maintenance work using hand and power tools, including carpentry and plumbing repairs.
- Prepare written materials to document activities and inform management about work orders.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Six months of commercial or municipal grounds maintenance and/or landscaping experience required.
- Valid State Driver's License and insurable driving record required.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Good hearing and eyesight.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with operating heavy machinery or dangerous equipment.
