About the position

The Grounds Technician II is responsible for performing routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on the grounds of the casino, including turf grass, shrubs, trees, and other plants. This role supports the operations of the casino by ensuring the upkeep of outdoor areas and infrastructure, contributing to a welcoming environment for guests.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repair on grounds, turf grass, shrubs, trees, and other plants.
  • Care for and maintain fences, roadways, driveways, parking lots, pavements, walkways, and other outdoor facilities.
  • Seed, water, mulch, fertilize, and apply chemicals to plantings and lawns.
  • Inspect plant materials for insects, disease, and damage; identify replacements as needed.
  • Mow lawns, trim and edge around trees and shrubs, and clean flower beds.
  • Set up, adjust, repair, and clean irrigation systems.
  • Keep daily logs of watering and chemical applications.
  • Perform inspections and maintenance on casino buildings and outdoor structures.
  • Remove trash and debris from public areas and maintain cleanliness.
  • Apply chemicals safely and properly, following safety protocols.
  • Operate light vehicles and groundskeeping equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assist in snow removal operations and maintain safety on walkways during winter.
  • Perform minor maintenance work using hand and power tools.
  • Prepare written materials to document activities and repairs.
  • Inform management about work order statuses and procedures.
  • Participate in training and meetings as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required, or currently enrolled in a GED program.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Three years of commercial or municipal grounds maintenance and/or landscaping experience required.
  • Must hold one of the following credentials: Ornamental Turf and Pest Control license, Certified Irrigation Technician, or Landscape Horticulturist certification.
  • Good hearing and eyesight are required.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English is necessary.
  • Willingness to work odd hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid State Driver's License and insurable driving record required.
  • Must obtain an Occupational License as per the Illinois Gaming Act.

  • Experience with heavy machinery operation.
