About the position
The Grounds Technician II is responsible for performing routine and extensive maintenance and repair procedures on the grounds of Wind Creek Chicago Southland. This includes caring for turf grass, shrubs, trees, and other plants, as well as maintaining various outdoor facilities and infrastructure to support casino operations. The role emphasizes a commitment to providing a welcoming environment for guests while ensuring the upkeep of the property.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on grounds and landscapes.
- Care for and maintain turf grass, shrubs, trees, and other plants, including seeding, watering, mulching, and applying chemicals.
- Inspect plant materials for insects, disease, and damage, and perform necessary replacements.
- Mow lawns, trim and edge around trees and shrubs, and maintain flower beds and other grounds.
- Keep daily logs of watering and chemical spraying activities.
- Perform inspections and general maintenance on casino buildings and outdoor facilities.
- Remove trash and debris from public areas and maintain cleanliness.
- Safely operate light vehicles and groundskeeping equipment, following safety protocols.
- Assist in snow removal operations and maintain safety on walkways during winter conditions.
- Prepare written materials documenting activities and repairs, and inform management of work status.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Three years of commercial or municipal grounds maintenance and/or landscaping experience required.
- Possess a valid Ornamental Turf and Pest Control license or equivalent certification from the State of Illinois.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Valid State Driver's License with an insurable driving record.
Nice-to-haves
- Certification in Infection Prevention & Control.
- Experience with irrigation systems and landscape lighting.
- Ability to work odd hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
